This centre will hold a major national profile with NHS England who are hoping that the pilot will radically transform how we deliver mental health care in the UK.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Work closely with team leaders, MDT & the Ladywell safeguarding team.

  • Liaise with the Lewisham safeguarding lead to provide adult social work provision.

  • Use knowledge & skills to support colleagues in care delivery, assessment & treatment.

  • Promote a strengths-based approach to assessments and interventions.

  • Liaise with, advise, and support external voluntary & statutory agencies.

  • Undertake Care Act interventions including assessment, prevention, personalisation & safeguarding.

  • Develop expertise under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

  • Undertake AMHP statutory duties (post-warranted by Lewisham Authority).

  • Safeguard service users, improve outcomes, and act as guide & advocate.

  • Support & advise MDT colleagues regarding safeguarding & social care.

  • Work collaboratively with professionals and agencies in community settings.

Job Responsibilities

  • Meet social care needs related to mental disorders and complex social situations.

  • Work with Social Work and Safeguarding leads to ensure effective service delivery.

  • Make referrals, provide access to advocacy, information, and guidance.

  • Provide highly specialist assessments and follow-ups for complex cases.

  • Assess risks: self-harm, neglect, vulnerability, domestic abuse, and safeguarding.

  • Supervise/co-work complex cases, complete reports, and attend MHA tribunals.

  • Coordinate care and aftercare plans per relevant legislation.

  • Engage service users and families in recovery-focused direct work.

  • Participate in referral screening and gather social care information.

  • Attend zoning, CPA, and planning meetings; contribute to specialist care planning.

  • Participate in risk assessment, safety planning, and discharge coordination.

  • Provide training and consultation on MH Act, safeguarding, and NICE compliance.

  • Support student placements (PEPS 1 & 2) if qualified.

  • Implement safeguarding procedures and promote equality, diversity & inclusion.

  • Attend professional supervision and provide supervision to team members.

  • Represent N2C in courts, case conferences, CPA, tribunals, and planning meetings.

  • Maintain accurate, timely records and uphold confidentiality protocols.

  • Participate in audits, research, and service development.

  • Comply with Trust and Health & Safety policies.

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential

  • Relevant professional qualification in Social Work, degree or master’s level

  • Registered with Social Work England

Qualifications – Desirable

  • AMHP warrant

  • Specialist skills training (e.g., psychological interventions)

Experience – Essential

  • Post-qualification experience in adult social work

  • Evidence-based approaches and best practice in working with service users and families

  • Experience in providing supervision and motivating staff

  • Understanding of Health and Social Care Governance

  • Working with diverse families, interpreters, and multi-agency collaboration

Knowledge/Skills – Essential

  • Mental Health Act 1983, Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005

  • Adult safeguarding procedures and domestic abuse awareness

  • Knowledge of adult mental health disorders and evidence-based practice

  • Analytical ability in complex situations and independent decision-making

  • Competency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ePJS
