Job Summary
The Assistant Finance Manager will support busy finance managers within The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, ideally with NHS experience. The role involves providing an efficient and professional management accounting service to departments within the Divisions/Directorates and the Trust.
The postholder will produce reports, projections, and analysis, liaising with budget holders and managers to generate insights that support forecasting and medium-term business planning.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Produce monthly budget statements and associated reports for a wide range of budgets, following agreed timetables.
Develop and maintain an integrated financial performance report, including year-end forecasts, highlighting variances, trends, influencing factors, and advising on management action.
Meet regularly with budget holders and senior managers to assess financial performance, providing analysis and advice on risks and success factors.
Ensure budget holders understand financial performance requirements, budgetary control, and adherence to SFIs, delivering financial awareness training as needed.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
Essential: Degree level or equivalent; significant progress towards a CCAB-recognised accountancy qualification (or equivalent experience).
Desirable: Completed CCAB-recognised accountancy qualification.
Experience
Essential: Significant experience in a financial management role and some costing experience.
Desirable: Costing experience within an acute hospital setting.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
Understanding and application of budgeting, financial planning, costing, pricing, variance analysis, and reporting techniques.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced Excel skills and competence in word processing.
Proficiency in General Ledger and other financial systems.
Ability to analyse and interpret financial data, meet tight deadlines, and prioritise multiple tasks.
Understanding of budgetary control, SFIs/SOs, and adherence requirements.
Ability to explain financial data clearly to non-finance staff.
Active interest in professional development.
Desirable: Advanced ECDL qualification, competence in other software such as Access and PowerPoint.
