Job Summary
Ensure all medicines optimisation and pharmaceutical processes across Provide services are safe, effective, and evidence-based.
Act as the Medication Safety Officer and lead on medication safety.
Lead on Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP).
Support and advise on governance and risks associated with medicines governance and assurance.
Key Responsibilities
Main Duties
Contribute to the development of pharmaceutical services across Provide.
Provide clinical pharmacy advice to support safe, effective medicines use.
Support patient pathways and redesign for medicines optimisation.
Deputise for the Head of Medicines Management as required.
Participate in clinical research and audit.
Communication & Relationships
Provide reports on medicines governance and assurance.
Communicate complex medicines management matters across all staff levels and organisations.
Motivate and negotiate with stakeholders to implement clinical and cost-effective prescribing.
Provide expert advice to services, patients, and the public.
Work collaboratively with partners including health, social care, and third-sector agencies.
Analytical & Judgement
Identify pharmaceutical needs through data analysis and interpretation.
Support monitoring and reporting of non-medical prescribing, ensuring evidence-based, cost-effective practice.
Planning & Organisation
Coordinate the Medicines Management work programme.
Lead innovation and service redesign in medicines optimisation and NMP.
Patient & Client Care
Provide specialised advice to support patient care.
Ensure compliance with prescribing standards.
Deliver medicines optimisation training and support staff.
Ensure controls assurance for medicines management, including procurement, storage, and destruction.
Review medicines-related complaints, incidents, and near misses.
Policy & Service
Interpret and implement national and local medicines management guidance.
Implement medicines-related alerts and develop working groups as needed.
Lead governance framework for controlled drugs.
Act as Deputy Chair for the Medicines Governance and Safety Group.
Human Resources
Deliver training on medicines and prescribing policies.
Support competency tools and training packages for new roles.
Research & Development
Lead audits and medicines-related research projects.
Freedom to Act
Interpret national and regional guidance for local implementation.
Lead implementation of NICE guidance and prescribing policies.
Act as Senior Pharmacist for patient group directions.
Witness controlled drug destruction as instructed.
Additional Duties
Complete mandatory training.
Participate in appraisals and provide supervision where appropriate.
Work collaboratively with partners, carers, clinicians, and multi-disciplinary teams.
Person Specification
Essential:
Minimum 3 years’ experience, including Community Health Services.
Experience of working on wards.
Evidence of medicines safety and review.
Presentation skills.
Desirable:
Leadership qualification.
Experience working across systems.
Governance and risk management experience.
