Job Summary

There are two full-time Social Worker positions available within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust:

  • One based at Gedling Local Mental Health Team (LMHT)

  • One based at Broxtowe and Hucknall LMHT

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the growing social work workforce within the trust. Social workers play a vital role in improving mental health outcomes through:

  • Understanding the social determinants of mental health

  • Using a human rights approach

  • Applying relationship-based, personalised, and strength-based working to support people in making positive, self-directed change

Successful candidates will work in multi-disciplinary community mental health teams, supporting caseloads of individuals with social issues impacting their mental health. Training, supervision, and opportunities to develop additional intervention skills are provided.

Main Duties of the Role

  • Demonstrate social work principles through professional judgement and accountability.

  • Promote and lead on the social perspective and trauma-informed model of mental health and wellbeing within the team.

  • Provide social work input and interventions where required.

  • Deliver care coordination for individuals facing social stressors.

  • Contribute to team responsibilities as needed.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a caseload while fulfilling team responsibilities.

  • Assess individuals holistically, considering both health and social needs.

  • Develop personalised support and safety plans.

  • Balance safeguarding, risk management, and positive risk-taking.

  • Provide safeguarding expertise within the team.

  • Apply and advise on relevant legislation (Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act, Mental Health Act, Equality Act, etc.).

  • Work with families, carers, and community services to ensure appropriate support.

  • Promote anti-discriminatory and anti-racist practice.

  • Provide supervision and contribute to a culture of learning and best practice.

  • Occasionally deliver medication under guidance.

  • Work as part of the duty system when required.

A full UK driving licence and business-use vehicle is required (reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants).

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Degree-level (or equivalent) Social Work qualification.

  • Current registration with Social Work England (SWE).

  • Ability to maintain professional registration.

Experience (Essential)

  • Managing a caseload and team responsibilities.

  • Delivering personalised support plans and risk assessments.

  • Safeguarding experience in complex cases.

  • Applying legislation to protect and advance people’s rights.

  • Partnership working with external agencies.

Knowledge (Essential)

  • Complex mental health needs and inequalities.

  • Legislation relevant to adult mental health.

  • Theories and models of social work intervention.

  • Human rights approach and statutory rights of individuals.

Skills (Essential)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Advocacy and negotiation skills.

  • Accurate record-keeping and analysis.

  • Managing competing priorities.

  • Anti-discriminatory practice.
