Job Summary
This role is focused on commissioning and project managing major capital schemes or a series of projects of significant capital value.
Responsibilities include:
Planning and managing a wide range of capital projects to high technical standards.
Ensuring delivery is efficient, professional, and aligned with stakeholder requirements.
Embracing best practice and innovation while ensuring statutory compliance, quality, and value for money.
Leading a team of Building Surveyors, Engineers, and Commissioning Managers to deliver on the Trust’s capital programme.
Main Duties
Manage complex capital projects within the Trust’s capital programme.
Work collaboratively with the Department of Health, Sheffield City Council, Trust Executive, and other external agencies.
Ensure projects are developed and progressed according to “project management” best practice.
Provide leadership and support to align projects with the Trust’s strategic direction and NHS priorities.
Take responsibility for all project stages: from briefing and design through to tender, construction, commissioning, hand-over, and post-project evaluation.

Experience
Essential:
Previous project management experience with in-depth technical and financial knowledge.
Experience in Estates Capital Management team-level work and contributing to directorate-level topics.
Extensive project management experience, including managing multiple projects in a live environment.
Experience deputising for senior colleagues.
Proven clarity on project and organisational expectations during planning.
Ability to prioritise objectives, identify root causes, and make collaborative decisions.
Experience contributing to business cases under the Capital Investment Manual.
Extensive experience with budgeting, cost control, and cash flow forecasting.
High-level technical competency in planning and managing complex health facilities.
Knowledge of NHS Design Guidance, Health Building Notes, Health Technical Memoranda, and DCAGs.
Experience managing capital schemes under SFI’s/SO’s in a healthcare environment.
Knowledge of engineering technology, building elements, regulations, and contracts.
Experience as a change manager in large organisations.
Desirable:
Experience in both public and private sectors.
Completed Finance Training Programme.
Qualifications
Essential:
Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
Post-graduate managerial knowledge and skills.
Estates Management-related professional qualification and membership (e.g., RICS, MCIBSE, MCIOB, RIBA).
PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner certification.
Desirable:
MBA.
Formal project management qualification.
Further Training
