Job Summary
Maternity services are provided across three sites, offering women and staff four birthing environments: home, freestanding birth centre, alongside birth centre, and obstetric labour ward.
At Prince Charles Site (Level 2), major refurbishments were completed in 2019. The unit includes:
Obstetric unit and alongside midwifery-led unit
Three birthing pools
A bereavement room
Enhanced facilities for women and staff
At Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend (Level 2 Maternity Unit), services include:
Bluebell Suite, an alongside Midwifery-Led room for low-risk women
Refurbished Birthing Pool room within the obstetric unit
Obstetric services supporting women requiring increased surveillance during labour
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will:
Provide all aspects of midwifery care for low-risk pregnant women in community and hospital settings
Practice autonomously as a registered Midwife, delivering safe and effective care without direct supervision
Work with the Obstetric Medical Team when caring for high-risk women
Be responsible for assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of maternity care programmes
Welsh Skills Desirable:
Speaking and Listening at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above
Ability to hold basic health conversations in Welsh is an advantage but not essential

Person Specification
Registration (Essential):
UK NMC Registered
Knowledge / Experience
Essential: Ability to undertake perineal suturing
Desirable: Ability to undertake IV cannulation
Desirable: Previous experience in an Obstetric Unit
Desirable: Welsh language skills (Speaking/Listening Level 3 or above)
