Job Summary
The Division of Urgent and Emergency Care is seeking a forward-thinking and enthusiastic Business Manager to work closely with the General Manager for Medicine to drive service improvement.
The successful applicant will:
Support the General Manager in ensuring high-quality, efficient, and effective services
Contribute to service strategy development and delivery
Ensure appropriate risk management processes are in place for safe, patient-centred care
Provide solutions and advice to staff in response to pressures affecting throughput
Support delivery of key performance targets in line with local and national agreements
Main Duties of the Job
The Business Manager will be a highly visible individual, responsible for ensuring standards of care, safe utilisation of resources, and effective operations. Responsibilities include:
Building strong relationships with Clinical Leads and Matrons
Line management of administrative staff
Operational delivery for delegated divisional areas
Supporting strategic direction with the GM, Clinical Leads, and Matron
Accountability for service delivery and operational issues, deputising for the GM
Implementing performance and service improvement policies
Managing resources to improve quality and productivity
Leading, motivating, and managing staff to achieve high levels of performance
Meeting national targets, including Clinical Quality Indicators
Promoting a whole-systems and partnership culture across divisional areas
Supporting HR initiatives such as Agenda for Change policies and practices

Essential:
Education to degree level or equivalent qualification/experience
Desirable:
Master’s degree in a management-related discipline
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
Practical/theoretical knowledge of financial, HR, and performance management, and project management
Understanding of NHS environment and impact on service provision
Knowledge of strategic and business planning
Substantial senior management experience
Experience managing access targets and multidisciplinary teams
Experience in business planning, service development, and managing acute healthcare services
Proven track record of achieving healthcare targets, partnership working, and proactive performance management
Desirable:
Up-to-date knowledge of NHS reform policy, capacity planning, and Foundation Trust issues
Experience in NHS service development and reconfiguration
