Job Overview
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic Finance Professional to join its dynamic Financial Management Team. The role involves providing financial guidance and support, delivering accurate financial information, and developing strong financial governance controls within the Research Directorate.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to strengthen financial and interpersonal skills while gaining deeper knowledge of NHS finances related to research activities. The successful candidate will report to and deputise for the Finance Business Partner, delivering comprehensive business services to ensure effective financial performance and maximise research revenues in line with organisational guidelines and reporting requirements.
Main Duties of the Job
Produce routine financial monitoring information and reports
Provide financial support and advice to budget holders
Act as a link support person aligned to a specified division
Apply project accounting principles for research grants and trials
Ensure compliance with NHS accounting standards in day-to-day financial management
Deliver effective communication of complex financial issues to both financial and non-financial staff
The successful candidate must be capable of managing multiple deadlines and objectives, with a proven ability to meet targets and maintain accuracy under pressure.

Job Responsibilities
The Finance Manager will provide financial and non-financial performance management information for the Research Directorate, including:
Budgets and budgetary control
Income and expenditure analysis
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
This role requires active engagement with the Trust’s researchers to understand the financial implications of research activities and ensure adherence to the latest policies, the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions (SFIs), and strategic goals.
Person Specification
Experience (Essential)
Relevant post-qualification experience in finance within a university or NHS setting
Management accounting, forecasting, and reporting experience
Staff management and training experience
Experience supporting research funding applications
Desirable:
Experience in cost improvement planning
Experience in contract negotiations
Skills (Essential)
Strong analytical and numerical abilities
Ability to interpret and present complex data clearly
Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and financial systems
Ability to manage competing deadlines independently
Desirable:
Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams
Knowledge (Essential)
Understanding of information governance, confidentiality, and equality issues
Knowledge of NHS R&D governance processes, NHS financial frameworks, IFRS standards, and internal financial controls
Understanding of financial implications of national R&D strategy and ability to communicate these effectively
Qualifications (Essential)
Fully qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA) or Passed Finalist
