The UX Team

The UX team is a collaborative, curious, and user-focused group, passionate about designing digital experiences that make a difference. The team works closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders across Jisc to ensure solutions are shaped by real user insight and aligned with sector needs.

The Role

Jisc is seeking a creative, user-focused UX Designer who thrives in autonomous roles to help shape the future of digital services in education and research. This role involves owning UX initiatives end-to-end, designing intuitive and inclusive experiences across a range of products, ensuring interactions are purposeful, accessible, and aligned with user needs.

Level 3 UX Designer Expectations

Jisc is looking for a Level 3 UX Designer who can lead UX work within a product team. This role requires strong generalist UX skills, with deeper expertise in either research or design. The successful candidate will work independently, guide teams with evidence-based decisions, and help ensure products deliver clear, user-centred experiences.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading day-to-day UX activity in a product team

  • Planning and carrying out UX work independently across discovery, design, and evaluation

  • Using specialist depth (research or design) to guide team decisions

  • Working closely with developers and product managers to shape solutions

  • Presenting clear insights, decisions, and recommendations to stakeholders

  • Producing structured, usable outputs such as research summaries, user flows, wireframes, and prototypes

  • Supporting collaboration through workshops and feedback sessions

Key Skills and Experience

  • Strong generalist skills across research, design, and evaluation

  • Specialist strength in either user research or interaction/UI design

  • Ability to lead UX work independently and judge when to involve others

  • Experience shaping service roadmaps and plans through applied UX expertise

  • Comfortable working in cross-functional, agile teams

  • Clear communication skills to explain evidence, decisions, and trade-offs

  • Confidence managing multiple tasks and adapting to changing priorities

Hybrid Working

Specific patterns for working in the office are not mandated, and the frequency of office attendance is agreed with a manager. Meeting in person is valued, and occasional travel to Jisc hub offices may be required.
