This is a patient-facing role; you will need to be articulate, work well within a busy team, and be patient, efficient, and professional. Good attention to detail and flexibility are also essential.

Monday: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Friday: 1:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Additional cover required for sickness and annual leave (including short notice)
Job Purpose
To work as part of the reception team to deliver an effective and efficient reception service to the patients of the practice and any other visitors.
To work as part of the wider primary care team to deliver high quality primary care services to the registered population.
About Shotfield Medical Practice
Shotfield Medical Practice consists of:
Four full-time GP partners
Five part-time salaried GPs
One Physician Associate
One full-time Pharmacist
A comprehensive nursing team and administrative support team
We serve a registered population of approximately 13,000 patients across Wallington and parts of Sutton, Carshalton, and Beddington.
The reception team includes 10 part-time staff and two part-time reception leads.
We are a busy, but friendly practice.
Job Description
Main Duties
Greeting patients on arrival, handling enquiries effectively and efficiently
Receiving incoming telephone calls and taking appropriate action
Making, cancelling, and rescheduling appointments
Explaining practice procedures to new or temporary patients
Processing repeat prescription requests in line with procedure
Advising patients of charges for non-NHS services and processing payments
Managing medical equipment loans (e.g., 24-hour blood pressure monitors)
Extracting and filing medical records accurately
Updating patient records (name, address, contact info, next of kin, etc.)
Booking interpreting services when required
Being aware of external services and referral processes (e.g., counselling)
Collecting patient samples and preparing them for hospital or internal testing
Undertaking tasks as required by Practice Nurses or GPs
Collecting, sorting, and distributing post
Opening and closing the Health Centre, ensuring safety and security
Using the clinical computer system to manage appointments and records
Assisting with patient recall and letter distribution
Assisting other teams and covering shifts outside normal hours when needed
Providing chaperone services outside standard hours
Keeping the reception/waiting area tidy and well-stocked with materials
Attending reception/admin meetings regularly
Performing other duties as assigned by the Reception Coordinator, Senior Administrator, Practice Manager, or Partners
