Main Duties

  • Provide overall management for projects

  • Support, facilitate, and monitor progress of projects within and across sites

  • Support performance improvement

  • Manage a team of project staff

  • Accountable for achieving project objectives, meeting deadlines, and ensuring outcomes align with organisational and stakeholder expectations

  • Identify and escalate significant risks, issues, or deviations from plan requiring senior intervention

Job Responsibilities

Project Planning and Delivery

  • Manage the full lifecycle of projects from initiation through to closure

  • Develop, implement, and monitor project plans aligned with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s goals

  • Define scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria with stakeholders

  • Resolve issues and manage dependencies to ensure milestones are met

Stakeholder Management

  • Engage with internal teams, external partners, and senior management

  • Facilitate communication and ensure stakeholder needs are met

Governance and Reporting

  • Establish governance frameworks and track progress

  • Report to the Head of PMO and senior leaders on risks, issues, and performance metrics

  • Conduct evaluations and share lessons learned

Risk and Issue Management

  • Identify risks and issues, developing mitigation strategies

  • Resolve issues promptly to minimise disruption

Resource and Budget Management

  • Allocate and control financial and human resources effectively

  • Monitor expenditure, report variances, and implement corrective actions

Change Management

  • Support implementation of organisational change initiatives

  • Communicate effectively and engage stakeholders during transitions

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

  • Project or programme management training/qualification (Prince2, MSP, APM)

  • Evidence of ongoing CPD activity

Knowledge & Experience (Essential)

  • Proven experience managing small to medium-sized projects (ideally in public sector/government)

  • Strong record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional team management

  • Understanding of PRINCE2, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies

  • Knowledge of NHS frameworks and governance structures

  • Team management skills with ability to motivate and develop staff
