Digital Health and Care Wales is looking for an enthusiastic and talented Senior Content Designer to join the User-Centred Design team. The role supports digital products and services in the Primary, Community and Mental Health directorate.
As a user-centred Senior Content Designer, the focus will be on making things easy for people to understand and use by designing how content is structured. Using evidence, the designer will ensure that users get the right content at every stage of their journey — from digital forms and navigation to button text, error messages, emails, and letters.
The aim is to put users’ needs at the heart of the work and make interactions with Digital Health and Care Wales products and services as simple as possible.

Main Duties of the Job
At this role level, a Senior Content Designer will:
Act as a lead specialist in content design, making decisions and coaching colleagues within the team and wider Community of Practice.
Take responsibility for content quality, mentoring content colleagues.
Review the work of others to assure quality.
Lead on content projects.
Engage with and contribute to the User-Centred Design community.
Advise and coordinate staff individually or in groups.
Deliver through others, directing and critiquing their work.
Guide others on the best tools and methods to use.
Assure the quality of content from junior colleagues, coaching them to improve.
Apply Agile methodology and mindset in a fast-paced environment.
Work iteratively and flexibly to enable rapid delivery.
Take risks, learn from mistakes, and adapt.
Plan and organise complex content design activities balancing conflicting business needs.

Job Description & Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of strategies, evaluating their impact against business and user needs.
Put accessibility at the heart of content design, encouraging others to do the same.
Understand end-to-end journeys and how content is shaped within them.
Moderate content in draft and published forms, ensuring it can be re-purposed.
Identify journey fixes and content improvements.
Ensure regular review and evaluation of content for continuous improvement.
Understand publishing risks and manage them effectively.
Negotiate with and influence stakeholders, managing relationships effectively.
Remove blockers and support decision-making.
Build long-term strategic relationships with stakeholders, balancing mutual commitments with user needs.
Collaborate with user researchers and performance analysts to advocate for users.
Evaluate both quantitative and qualitative data.
Deliver outputs that provide value for money.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Knowledge
Essential
Master’s degree in a relevant professional field (or equivalent qualification/experience)
Evidence of higher-level education and/or training
Knowledge through practical experience at this level across a range of procedures and practices
Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable
FEDIP Senior Practitioner or equivalent advanced professional qualification
Relevant certifications (e.g., MISTC)
Knowledge of NHS, healthcare systems, or sectoral variations

Practical content design experience across the end-to-end user journey
Experience in developing content strategy for large-scale problems or high-profile events
Ability to translate technical data into content that meets user needs
Experience of complex projects in fast-paced, agile environments
Ability to present data and information in accessible formats
Desirable
Proficiency in software for data capture, creation, and manipulation
Coding knowledge for program creation
Understanding of web standards, SEO, cross-browser layouts, and metadata
Multimedia and Active-X control experience
