About the Role

The IT Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Trust’s server and desktop infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management: Oversee proactive and reactive management of server and desktop infrastructure

  • Problem Management: Work with specialist areas to resolve issues and meet SLA targets

  • Escalation Point: Act as the technical lead for incidents involving servers, networks, telephony, and desktops

  • IT Support: Provide senior-level IT support and break-fix services across the Trust and stakeholder organisations

  • Supervision: Lead the Technical Services Team, managing engineers, procurement services, and enforcing standards

  • Project Delivery: Lead project implementation of key infrastructure and business-as-usual technical support services (24/7)

  • Cyber & Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks, analyse security threats, and recommend improvements

  • Supplier & Budget Management: Support management of third-party supplier contracts, financial planning, and budgets

  • Leadership & Development: Mentor team members, support professional growth, and provide training opportunities

Main Duties of the Job

  • Oversee server, storage, network voice and data services

  • Deliver business-as-usual technical support services

  • Manage team operations, policies, and client relations

  • Analyse service provision issues and resource allocation

  • Communicate technical solutions in non-technical language to staff at all levels

  • Participate in the on-call rota and work weekends or unsociable hours when required

Person Specification

Education

Essential:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant subject or equivalent experience

  • Technical/Cyber qualification or equivalent experience

  • ITIL Foundation

Desirable:

  • Project management qualification

  • ITIL Advanced Qualification

Experience

Essential:

  • Significant management experience

  • Strong knowledge of operational IT service delivery

  • Experience implementing internal processes and procedures

  • NHS or healthcare setting experience

Desirable:

  • Customer service environment experience

  • Experience with security products and/or incidents

Knowledge

Essential:

  • IT systems and procedures (degree-level or equivalent)

  • Virtual Server hypervisor technology, M365, Azure, remote access technologies

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft 365

  • Understanding NHS customer requirements and emerging technologies

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit

  • Understanding NHS Cyber Alert process and Digital good practice guidelines

Skills

Essential:

  • Excellent leadership and management skills

  • Ability to influence and persuade

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining complex technical solutions in plain language
