Job Summary
Following new investment, a Senior Social Work post is available within the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Community Service North Yorkshire and York.
Service areas: York and Scarborough
Role: Represent a social work perspective for women experiencing mental health difficulties in pregnancy and up to one year postnatal
Responsibility: Defined caseload including service users with child and/or adult safeguarding needs
Development: Ongoing development of the social worker role within the multidisciplinary team
Main Duties of the Job
Key work a caseload of patients with perinatal needs, particularly those with complex social care and safeguarding requirements
Deliver care to expectant and new mothers with severe and complex mental health problems
Work as part of a specialist multi-disciplinary team, with further training and supervision provided
Travel independently across the locality (vehicle required, adjustments possible under Equality Act 2010)

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
Appropriate professional qualification in social work
Current registration with relevant regulatory body
IELTS Level 7 (SLT = 8) for international recruits
Desirable:
Postgraduate training in a relevant specialist area
Experience
Essential:
At least 12 months post-qualifying social work experience / completion of ASYE (post 2012)
For pre-2012, evidence of experience in line with the professional capabilities framework for an experienced social worker
Desirable:
Experience supporting people with mental health issues, learning disabilities, or autism
Experience in multidisciplinary teams
Knowledge
Essential:
Understanding of needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities
Legal literacy
Desirable:
Clinical risk assessment and practice application
Evidence-based practice knowledge in specialist areas
Postgraduate training relevant to the post (e.g., dysphagia, autism diagnostics)
Experience managing complex social work cases
Awareness of professional standards and practice application
