Main Duties

  • Deliver management accounting services, including financial analysis and reporting.

  • Communicate financial changes and trends to budget holders and senior stakeholders.

  • Provide ongoing training and support to colleagues.

  • Supervise and develop junior accounting staff.

  • Lead in month-end, year-end, and annual stock-take processes.

  • Support the Deputy Head of Finance with costing and analytical projects.

  • Create new financial reports and ensure trends or issues are investigated.

  • Deputise for the Deputy Head of Finance when required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: Completion of a CCAB-recognised accountancy qualification (or equivalent experience); advanced Excel skills.

  • Desirable: NHS or other public sector organisation experience.

Experience

  • Essential: Previous accounting department experience, including financial management roles.

  • Desirable: Audit review, business case preparation, efficiency and effectiveness evaluations, managing multiple senior client relationships.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of accounting sub-systems (Payroll, Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, Procurement).

  • Proficiency in budgeting, financial planning, costing, pricing, and variance analysis.

  • Understanding of Standing Financial Instructions and governance processes.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance staff.

  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience handling high-volume transactions and complex financial reports.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and IT systems knowledge.
