An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated social workers to join Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT). The Trust invests in the development of social workers and plays a lead role in the Think Ahead initiative.

EPUT is seeking enthusiastic and resourceful social workers with the ability to respond positively and creatively to service user needs.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Work as part of the discharge team on a locality psychiatric unit.

  • Support patients on the psychiatric inpatient unit, their families, and the mental health system.

  • Collaborate with the discharge coordinator to ensure timely discharge.

  • Ensure needs under the Care Act (2014) are assessed and met.

  • Apply flexibility, creativity, and a forward-thinking attitude.

  • Communicate effectively and assertively in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key partners.

Support Provided: Supervision, training, and development opportunities are offered by the established Social Care Leadership Team.

Job Description & Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality interventions to service users experiencing mental health difficulties.

  • Promote recovery and independence.

  • Manage a defined caseload where barriers delay discharge and recovery.

  • Apply knowledge of accommodation funding streams, housing referral pathways, safeguarding, dual diagnosis, NRPF, and related social circumstances.

  • Implement the personalisation agenda through strengths-based assessments.

  • Deliver statutory duties and responsibilities under the Care Act (2014).

  • If qualified as an AMHP, actively participate in the Area AMHP rota, conducting MHA assessments and other allocated duties.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential:

  • Recognised Social Work Qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent).

  • Registration with Social Work England.

  • Approved Mental Health Professional (already approved or committed to AMHP training).

Desirable:

  • Studying or willing to study towards Post Qualification Award in Social Work.

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Multi-disciplinary social care experience in mental health.

  • Understanding of Social Care practice as defined by Social Work England.

Desirable:

  • Experience with mental health service users.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Awareness of NHS and Social Care policy changes.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check: Required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.

  • Certificate of Sponsorship: Skilled Worker visa sponsorship available. Applications from international candidates will be considered.

  • Criminal Record Certificates: Required for Skilled Worker applicants who lived abroad for 12+ months in the past 10 years (applies to dependants too).

  • UK Registration: Applicants must hold current UK professional registration.
