Main Duties

  • Provide clinical expertise and leadership within the ACMHS.

  • Participate in referral and allocation processes.

  • Safeguard vulnerable children and adults.

  • Contribute to case discussions and service-related meetings.

  • Manage a caseload, providing direct support and advice to service users and carers.

  • Work within the recovery framework, supporting individual choice and control.

Responsibilities

  • Champion social care with a comprehensive understanding of legislation and statutory requirements.

  • Lead on adult safeguarding practice, undertake safeguarding enquiries, and contribute to care plans protecting both adults and children.

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments and reviews for individuals with high risk or complex needs, in line with the Care Act 2014.

  • Provide direct support and signpost individuals who do not meet social care eligibility.

  • Ensure appropriate health and social care services are commissioned, including offering direct payments.

  • Support processes for charging service users by the local authority where applicable.

Person Specification

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Essential:

  • Professional social work qualification, degree level education.

  • Registration with Social Work England.

  • Training in outcomes-focused assessments and personalisation.

  • Relevant post-qualifying training.

  • Experience and training in safeguarding.

Desirable:

  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) / Best Interests Assessor training.

Areas of Experience and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience.

  • Knowledge of legislation, theory, and policy for relevant care groups.

  • Experience in assessments, personalisation, choice, and control.

  • Knowledge of personal budgets and direct payments.

  • Experience of multidisciplinary and partnership working.

Desirable:

  • Experience as AMHP and/or Best Interests Assessor.

Communication Skills

Essential:

  • Strong communication with service users, carers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage highly sensitive information.

  • Experience with electronic recording systems and producing accurate reports.

Analytical Skills

Essential:

  • Ability to analyse service user and carer information.

  • Experience in small-scale audits and surveys.
