Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust for a Senior Management Accountant. This role is ideal for a finance professional who wants to use their skills to make a difference to healthcare services.
As part of the Management Accounts Team, the postholder will provide high-quality accounting and financial advice to a Care Group covering a significant number of clinical service areas. The role is both rewarding and challenging, requiring financial and analytical expertise along with strong communication and organisational skills.
Applicants should be qualified Accountants (or training towards qualification), with demonstrable management accounting experience. Knowledge of the NHS would be an advantage.

Main Duties of the Job
The Senior Management Accountant will provide lead accounting expertise and financial analysis to Care Groups and Operational Teams.
Responsibilities include:
Delivering high-quality management accounting services to Operational Managers, Clinical Directors, Budget Holders, and Support Managers.
Leading management accounting reporting for the Care Group to the Finance Business Partner.
Ensuring monthly reports and forecasts are accurate and timely.
Applying best practices for accurate financial performance reporting.
Using persuasion and negotiation to influence cost-effective decision-making.
Leading the budget setting process for Service Lines.
Providing financial input into complex business cases.
Analysing variances, benchmarking, and reconciling service income.
Supporting the development and monitoring of Financial Improvement Plans.
Training Service Line Management Teams in financial management and developing financial awareness.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of financial management, accounting procedures, legislation, and finance policies.
Evidence of CPD, specialist training, and up-to-date knowledge of national accounting standards.
Awareness of national directives and governance.
Desirable:
Experience in management accounting.
Knowledge of NHS finance regime and tariff arrangements.
Qualifications
Essential:
A levels and 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above) including Maths and English.
Fully qualified Accountant, studying towards qualification, or equivalent experience.
Commitment to CPD in line with relevant Institute requirements.
