Job Summary
This role provides business and financial leadership for all aspects of Research and Development linked to South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The Finance Business Partner will also represent the Trust within the wider Kings Health Partners (KHP) research network as required.
The position requires exceptional communication and negotiation skills to work with South London and Maudsley NHS FT Directors, leading national clinicians, academics, and across cross-organisational research networks under the KHP umbrella and beyond.
The core objective is to provide analysis, reporting, and expert advice to maximise research income while accurately aligning and reporting research costs with financial rigour.

Main Duties of the Job
Act as the go-to person for expert R&D business advice.
Develop financial strategies for R&D to help the Trust meet its objectives.
Lead on all business aspects of R&D and escalate issues to SMT or Clinical Directors when required.
Communicate and share a wider understanding of R&D business across the Trust.
Build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues across research networks.
Monitor and manage accurate and timely returns to support multiple funding streams.
Ensure consistent application of South London and Maudsley NHS FT business rules and strategy across R&D.
Provide business leadership on the R&D committee and other groups.
Lead on information gathering, modelling, and costing of bids for R&D funding awards.
Partner with R&D and Medical Directors and SMT to oversee transparent processes for R&D funds.
Manage, support, and motivate R&D finance staff and allocated resources.

Manage, support, and motivate R&D finance staff and resources.

Qualifications
Essential: CCAB qualified
Experience
Essential: Previous management of large and complex budget setting and reporting processes
Desirable: Experience within the NHS
Essential: Experience in R&D finance, funding flows, and reporting
Desirable: Experience in NHS R&D finance
Essential: Knowledge of systems such as Excel, budgeting systems, financial ledger systems, reporting software (e.g. Business Objects)
Skills
Essential: Strong communication skills, particularly explaining financial issues/data to non-financial and non-NHS staff.
