Job Title: Support Worker

Location: United Kingdom

Salary: £12.60 an hour

Job Type: Part-time

About the Role

Why not start a rewarding new career in social care? No experience necessary: training is provided.

This role involves providing invaluable support to four people with learning disabilities who live in their own flats in Wrexham.

What People Supported Want in Their Support Workers:

  • Talk to me and treat me like an adult.
  • Support me to do things, not do them for me, even if it takes a long time.
  • Listen to me and not tell me — I don’t like it if you sound bossy.
  • Always include me; I am able to make decisions about my life.
  • Be kind and patient with me.

Things You’ll Support With:

  • Visiting my family.
  • Going out in the car — to a café, shops, or both.
  • Enjoying my garden and the outdoors when the weather is nice.
  • Staying safe inside and outside my home, especially as I can have seizures and may need medical assistance.
  • Doing crafts and playing on my Wii (especially golf!).

Things to Know About Me:

  • I have a naughty sense of humour.
  • My favourite thing is sticking the V sign up to people, with some swearing — please don’t be offended.
  • Sometimes I need persuading to do things out of my comfort zone, but respect my choices if I keep saying no.
  • I want someone who can be a friend, not just a support worker.
  • I attend many medical appointments, and I need support to be treated fairly and equally.
  • I find it hard to trust people, but once I know you, I’m really funny and we’ll laugh every day.
