Senior Project Manager (Sponsorship Available) at University of Glasgow

Job Purpose

The Senior Project Manager will report to the Head of Project Delivery within the Programme Delivery directorate, working in partnership with the Information Security Team and other multi-functional teams. The role involves providing strong Project Management and Business Analysis skills to manage and drive the Information Security Controls Programme of work across the University.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lead the delivery of projects within a programme of work, ensuring completion within agreed timescales, budgets, and scope.

  2. Manage multiple large organisational, process, systems, and data projects across all Colleges, University Services, and central functions.

  3. Oversee project staff resources for large project teams, often including external parties, by developing delivery plans, allocating work, and monitoring progress.

  4. Communicate with sponsor and stakeholder communities, engaging academics, senior colleagues, and operational staff to ensure clarity in key project communications.

  5. Implement robust risk management processes to identify, assess, and manage risks effectively.

  6. Ensure quality management processes are in place, guaranteeing project deliverables comply with stakeholder requirements, legislation, University policies, and industry best practices.

  7. Report to Project Boards and senior university committees on all aspects of project delivery, preparing high-quality papers and management products.

  8. Provide leadership in business process mapping and improvement as part of wider project change initiatives.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications (Essential)

  • Extensive knowledge of change projects including organisation and process design, systems implementation, and data projects.

  • Relevant Degree/postgraduate qualification, or equivalent, in disciplines such as Information Security, Compliance, Resilience, or IT Management.

  • Project Management qualification and thorough understanding of project management methodologies.

  • Extensive knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methodologies.

  • Understanding of IT system development lifecycles.

  • Experience in business process mapping and design.

  • Knowledge of overseeing projects to improve information security, coordinating technical and non-technical teams.

  • Knowledge of Information Security Controls, Resilience Controls, or Compliance.

Desirable

  • SCRUM certification or PRINCE2 Practitioner certificate.

  • Knowledge of competitive dialogue procurement processes.

  • ITIL Foundation.

  • ISO 27001 Lead Implementer, CISP or CISM.

  • Experience in Higher Education.

Skills (Essential)

  • Proven ability to manage complex Information Security, Resilience, or Compliance improvement projects.

  • Strong project planning and communication abilities.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective change management in large organisations.

  • Ability to challenge norms and propose innovative approaches.

  • Strong relationship management and collaboration across departments.

  • Leadership, motivation, and negotiation skills.

  • Excellent written communication and stakeholder engagement.

Experience (Essential)

  • Proven success in managing complex planning projects within large organisations.

  • Experience using Agile tools or similar project planning software.

  • Substantial expertise in business analysis and organisation-wide data programmes.

  • Experience managing large project teams (20+ people, including contractors).

  • Proven ability to develop business cases and secure funding.

Terms and Conditions

  • Salary: Grade 8 (£50,253 – £58,225 per annum)

  • Contract: Full-time, fixed-term for up to 24 months from the start date
