Job Summary
The Business Operations Manager will be responsible for maintaining strategic oversight and coordinating projects, events, and operational plans across the South West. Working closely with the Head of Business Operations, the postholder will provide support for finance and HR commissions.
By building successful relationships, they will identify opportunities for continuous improvement and ensure the necessary workforce is in place to achieve priorities.
The postholder will also develop project plans, collaborate to ensure projects are managed effectively, and present concise reports to the Senior Management Team on regional activities.
Reporting to the Head of Regional Engagement, the postholder will support engagement activities with external stakeholders and lead the coordination of external events that promote the region’s priorities.
This is a site-based role with occasional national travel requirements.

Main Duties of the Job
Operations Management
Support workforce projects, including staff away days and responding to the People Survey results.
Collaborate with the Head of Business Operations on developing and implementing the regional workforce strategy.
Assist with finance and Human Resources (HR) projects.
Design and establish efficient processes to support operational delivery.
Project Management
Develop project plans and collaborate across teams to deliver projects efficiently.
Maintain governance structures to ensure the Wider Leadership Team operates effectively.
Monitor and report to the Senior Management Team on progress toward objectives, identifying risks and mitigation measures.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
Assist with implementing the regional engagement plan by collaborating with external stakeholders in the South West.
Lead the development of a schedule of events in accordance with the regional engagement plan.

Human Resources Management
Support the senior management team in planning, implementing, and coordinating effective training and development programmes for the Directorate.
Oversee recruitment activity, working with recruitment, HR, and Finance teams where appropriate.
Support the induction of new staff into the Directorate or Centre, including organisation of new IT equipment, passes, and other onboarding tasks.
Planning and Organisation
Contribute to developing performance and governance strategies and implementing improvement programmes aligned with business priorities.
Contribute to short-, medium-, and long-term business plans to achieve quality outcomes.
Oversee key directorate projects, working with project and programme professionals to create and maintain effective management plans and processes.
Develop and implement records management processes relevant to business needs and ensure maintenance.
Contribute to developing key performance indicators for successful assessment of work areas.

Location and Working Arrangements
This role is hybrid, based at the Bristol office.
UKHSA offers flexible working arrangements where business needs allow.
Hybrid workers are expected to spend a minimum of 60% of contractual working hours (approximately 3 days per week, averaged monthly) in the office.
The Bristol office is modern and newly refurbished, with excellent transport links and co-location with other government departments such as the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).
