Main Duties of the Role

As a Senior Social Worker, responsibilities include:

  • Promoting and leading practice in accordance with the principles of personalisation and wellbeing.

  • Supporting individuals’ rights to choice and control within a multidisciplinary mental health team.

  • Providing robust, consistent, and expert social care practice advice in collaboration with senior social care colleagues.

  • Supporting newly qualified social workers through the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE), including acting as an ASYE assessor and participating in the moderation process.

  • Undertaking duties as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) or being willing to complete AMHP training.

Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Champion social care through a strong understanding of legislation and statutory guidance.

  • Maintain links with the Corporate Social Work and Safeguarding Team and provide accurate, consistent, and robust social care advice.

  • Undertake complex assessments and reviews for individuals presenting with high risk or complex needs, ensuring alignment with The Care Act 2014 eligibility criteria.

  • Provide direct support to service users and carers, ensuring those not meeting social care eligibility are appropriately signposted.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • Professional social work qualification

  • Registration with Social Work England

  • Degree-level education or equivalent

  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) training or willingness to complete within one year of appointment

  • Relevant post-qualifying social work training

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Post-qualifying training such as CBT, family therapy, or Best Interests Assessment training

Essential Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience with evidence of advanced-level practice

  • Strong knowledge of legislation, statutory guidance, and social care theory

  • Experience in personalised assessments, care planning, and use of personal budgets or direct payments

  • Proven record of supervision, mentoring, and multidisciplinary collaboration

  • Partnership working with service users and carers, demonstrating dignity and respect

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

This position requires a Disclosure and Barring Service Check, as it is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
