The Luton North Hub Community Mental Health Team at East London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Social Worker to join its forward-thinking and dynamic team.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with secondary mental health services, local authorities, Integrated Care Boards, primary care services, housing associations, as well as voluntary and private sector partners — all contributing to a person-centred and recovery-focused model of care.

Main Duties

  • Hold a social care caseload in line with the service’s operational policy.

Person Specification

Education, Qualification, and Training

Essential:

  • Appropriate social work qualification

  • Registration with Social Work England

  • Degree-level education

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent post-qualifying training

  • Approved Mental Health Professional qualification (or willingness to undertake within one year)

  • Other relevant post-qualification training (e.g. CBT, family therapy, Best Interest Assessor)

Experience

Essential:

  • Knowledge of legislation, statutory guidance, and policy related to adult and children’s social care

  • Experience in assessment, personalisation, and care planning

  • Understanding of personal budgets and direct payments

  • Evidence of multidisciplinary and collaborative working

  • Demonstrated partnership work with service users and carers

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across diverse stakeholders

  • Ability to manage challenging meetings and sensitive information

  • Competence in electronic record systems and report writing

  • Ability to work sensitively within diverse environments

Desirable:

  • Experience conducting audits, surveys, or research

  • Analytical ability and commitment to anti-discriminatory practice

Other Requirements

Essential:

  • Ability to attend meetings and visits at various locations

  • Computer literacy (to ECDL standard)

  • Car driver (unless exempt under the Equality Act 2010)

  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle crises appropriately

  • Flexibility in managing workload and supporting others

  • Capacity to manage distressing or aggressive behaviours from service users or carers

Desirable:

  • Experience in an integrated health and social care setting

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required to review any previous criminal convictions.
