The Role
Pluto Press is looking for a friendly, organised, and proactive Customer Service Operative to join the team on a freelance basis. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, the role plays a key part in ensuring readers receive excellent service when they contact the company about their book orders.
This position involves responding to customer queries via email, assisting readers with placing orders or accessing their accounts and eBooks, and liaising with distributors to resolve delivery issues. The successful candidate will manage an inbox, ensuring all messages are handled efficiently and professionally. Training and ongoing support will be provided.
This digital-first role suits someone confident working independently and maintaining a consistent schedule. It is ideal for someone who can commit between 1–2 hours every weekday to providing customer support.
Key Responsibilities
Provide a positive and professional experience for customers who contact Pluto Press.
Manage the customer service inbox, ensuring all queries are tracked and resolved in a timely manner.
Communicate clearly and empathetically with readers via email.
Work with distributors to troubleshoot order or delivery issues.
Keep accurate records of customer interactions and resolutions.
Collaborate with the Head of Marketing to improve the overall customer experience.
About You
Experience in a customer service role is preferred, but not essential.
Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
Confident managing an email inbox (Gmail experience preferred).
Able to work with several different databases to answer customer queries.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Able to work independently.
Enthusiasm for books and publishing is a plus!
