Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join UKHSA as a Senior Content Designer within the Data Product Development (DPD) division, part of the Digital and Data Directorate of the Chief Data Officer Group.
The DPD division provides strategic and operational oversight of data products such as dashboards and platforms for internal and external use. Key products include the UKHSA data dashboard, the Local Authority Data Access Platform (LADAP), and the Power BI Centre of Excellence.
The UKHSA data dashboard builds on the influential COVID-19 dashboard and presents data on COVID-19, Interviewer information pack, Other Respiratory viruses, Outbreaks, Syndromic Surveillance, Antimicrobial resistance, Weather and Climate Risks, Blood borne illnesses, Childhood and vaccine preventable disease, Environmental hazards, Healthcare associated infections, Invasive Bacterial infections, Vector and Vector-borne diseases.
As a Senior Content Designer, the role involves working in an agile environment with colleagues across product and data development teams and engaging with key stakeholders to enable effective dashboard capability development.
Main Duties of the Job
Senior content designers:
Make content easier to understand and use.
Take a high-level view of how a user’s journey maps to government processes.
Write clear, usable content for complex transactional and information services.
Assure the quality of others’ work using data and user research.
The role includes:
Content quality assurance and best practice within an agile multidisciplinary team.
Leading, coaching, and mentoring team members.
Developing a diverse workforce.
Building awareness of user-centred design across UKHSA.
Contributing to the user-centred design community.

Lead creation and iteration of content for multiple complex projects.
Ensure content quality and best practice aligned with government and NHS standards.
Develop content strategies based on research and data.
Use collaborative tools, techniques, and content assets to explore and test ideas.
Build relationships with stakeholders and promote user-centred content design.
Lead in the UKHSA content design community of practice.
Work collaboratively with other design professions in agile teams.
Work with user researchers to analyse insights and identify user needs.

Essential Criteria
Significant senior-level content design experience or a relevant degree.
Senior experience in user-centred content design within complex organisations.
Extensive experience writing accessible, usable content.
Ability to use analytics, user research, and feedback for strategic decisions.
Experience developing content strategies aligned with user needs and business goals.
Strong stakeholder management and influence skills.
Experience working in agile or multidisciplinary teams.
Familiarity with collaborative design tools and techniques.
Leadership, coaching, and mentoring experience.
Strong communication skills for presenting best practices.
Understanding of diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and equitable service design.

Grade 7 National: £56,185 – £66,581
Grade 7 Outer: £58,340 – £68,574
