Main Duties of the Job

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  1. Support the Assistant Director of Finance and Head of Financial Management with monitoring and reporting.

  2. Provide high-quality financial management advice for clinical and non-clinical divisions.

  3. Provide strategic financial input for service development and strategic changes.

  4. Support projects within finance or across the Trust.

  5. Ensure the Head of Financial Management is informed of divisional issues.

  6. Co-ordinate divisional monthly financial management information and reporting.

  7. Co-ordinate budget setting processes and contribute to annual planning.

  8. Interpret financial information, communicate variances, and advise on action plans.

  9. Promote financial control, stewardship, and value for money.

  10. Identify, monitor, and evaluate Cost Improvement Programme targets.

  11. Forecast year-end financial positions monthly.

  12. Uphold professionalism and support Finance Directorate objectives.

  13. Present financial information to improve awareness and efficiency.

  14. Advise on performance targets, service changes, and tariff implications.

  15. Link with Income, Costing, and Contracting teams on profitability reporting.

  16. Ensure accurate reporting of balance sheet and cash flow with Financial Services Manager.

  17. Contribute to corporate financial projects, including Annual Accounts.

  18. Maintain consistent accounting standards and share best practices.

  19. Act as an authorised signatory for cheques and payment transfers.

  20. Exercise independent judgement and problem-solving.

  21. Prioritise own work and manage sub-teams, including appraisals and development.

  22. Provide financial training across the Trust.

  23. Develop and implement financial policies and protocols.

  24. Provide cover for other finance team members.

  25. Agree on personal objectives, development plans, and maintain CPD.

  26. Demonstrate Trust values and behaviours.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • CCAB/CIMA Qualified Accountant

  • Demonstrated Continuous Professional Development

Desirable

  • Degree

Experience

Essential

  • Post-qualification experience in a senior role

  • Strong background in financial management and accounting principles

  • Experience in multi-agency and multidisciplinary environments

  • Significant management accounting experience

  • Staff management and development experience

  • Experience with computerised financial systems

Desirable

  • NHS finance experience

  • Experience preparing statutory annual accounts

  • Charity/third sector accounting

  • Research grants and contracts accounting

Skills

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Ability to present financial information to non-financial staff
