Key Responsibilities
As a Health Care Assistant at St. Luke’s Hospice, you will:
Provide high-quality personal care and practical support to individuals with life-limiting conditions, respecting their wishes and preferences.
Assist with daily living activities: mobility, washing, dressing, toileting, eating, and drinking, in line with individual care plans.
Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming hospice environment for patients, families, and visitors.
Offer companionship and emotional reassurance to patients and carers.
Work closely with nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated palliative care.
Document care accurately, upholding confidentiality and data protection protocols.
Assist with moving and handling, pressure area care, and symptom monitoring—escalating concerns when necessary.
Participate in team meetings, ongoing training, and service improvement initiatives.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Previous experience as a care assistant or support worker in palliative, hospice, nursing home, hospital, or community settings is advantageous.
NVQ Level 2 or Care Certificate (or willingness to work towards it).
Kind, respectful, flexible, and patient-centred approach to care.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work independently and in a team.
Reliable, with good initiative and understanding of professional boundaries.
Familiarity with safeguarding, confidentiality, and infection control practices.
