About the Role
Southampton City Council is recruiting dynamic, compassionate, and forward-thinking Support Workers to join the Kentish Road Respite Service, part of Directly Delivered Services (DDS).
Kentish Road is a CQC-registered service that provides short-stay respite care for adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities, autism, neurodiversity, and complex needs. The service is focused on person-centred, strengths-based support to help individuals live independently, feel safe, and thrive within their community.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Support Worker, you will provide personalised care and support to people during their short stays at Kentish Road respite care home. Responsibilities include:
Supporting individuals in everyday activities, helping them build confidence and skills.
Assisting with personal care, medication, and emotional wellbeing.
Enabling participation in meaningful activities.
Encouraging community engagement and fulfilling experiences.
Contributing to care plans tailored to each individual.
Maintaining accurate records and effective communication with families and colleagues.
Working as part of a team committed to inclusivity, adaptability, and improvement.
Shifts Available
Daytime Support Workers
Flexible shifts: mornings, afternoons, long days, and alternate weekends.
Potential for split shifts and unsocial hours.
Every day is different, requiring adaptability and teamwork.
Nighttime Support Workers (Waking Nights)
Providing essential care and support overnight.
Working alongside an Enablement Worker.
Assisting with personal care, safety, and emergency responses.
Maintaining a calm and focused environment for residents.

What We’re Looking For
Experience or lived experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs.
Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate (or willingness to work towards it).
Strong communication skills and a positive, inclusive approach.
Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, lone working when needed, or waking night shifts.

Salary & Benefits
Salary: £26,402 – £28,207 per annum (starting salary £26,402 with annual progression).
